The brief was to open the ground floor — turn two separate rooms into one continuous space. The wall separating the kitchen from the living room was structural, so the sequence mattered: correct propping first, steel specified and installed, then the ceiling formed around it.
The drop ceiling with its integrated LED strip and recessed downlights was designed as part of the structural solution — not added afterwards. The lighting recess follows the line of the new beam, making the steel a feature of the room rather than something to hide.
Photography here is mid-build. The fresh plaster is on the walls, the ceiling is formed, the lighting is in. Flooring and decoration follow.
